2010 FIRSTSWING SUMMER BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

FirstSwing is offering Summer Camps in cooperation with the City of Everett Parks and Recreation Department at the Phil Johnson Baseball Complex for youngsters 3-16. These FUN camps are based on sound educational principles and teach that baseball/softball is more than just a game! The overall mission of the baseball and softball camps is to teach the FUNdamentals of the game and “life’s little lessons” while playing the game. Young ballplayers will learn the basic skill sets of hitting, throwing, fielding and the “mental game” as well as financial literacy, conditioning, manners, decision-making, goal setting, nutrition, problem solving, and more!! Camp teaches the youngsters to be accountable and responsible for their actions, and empowers them to be good productive citizens. EVERY camper will play games and be part of an interactive team. Camp Descriptions

Complete Camp (Ages 6-14)
From the first swing to the last catch, have fun learning every skill required in the game of baseball: hitting, throwing, fielding, base running, and infield and outfield play. Be part of the excitement -- participate in a home run derby or Bunt-a-thon and earn cool prizes. Campers receive constructive coaching while playing an hourly game on a team.

Skills Camp (Ages 8-16)
Develop your game with more specialized coaching. Each player chooses a defensive position for individual instruction and evaluation: pitcher, catcher, infield or outfield.


Small Ball (Ages 3-5)
Even the smallest ballplayers can score big fun in this parent-toddler camp. Preschool-aged campers play BlastBall and enjoy learning baseball skills. Parents learn helpful tips from our syllabus. Camp is limited to 12 families per session.

Special Evaluation (Ages 9-16)
Practice to advance! If you're motivated to play at baseball's highest level and relish the opportunity to practice and benefit from one-on-one coaching, this camp is for you. Coaches teach and review individual and team skills. Detailed assessments include bat/hand speed, throwing/pitching, fielding, hitting skill sets, running measurements and mental/visual acuity. Each camper receives a written individual evaluation with constructive recommendations for improvement. Limited to 20 serious players of all ability levels. Players 8 years or under may attend with instructor permission.


Baseball/Softball Challenge (Ages 9-17)
This camp is for the serious ball players. Learn the game of baseball though actual game experience that focuses on the fluency of the game and understanding the mechanics. Individual work in a team environment with controlled game situations: throwing/pitching, hitting/bunting, fielding, base running, and the MENTAL game. Youth under 9 years of age may attend with instructor permission.

Why FirstSwing Baseball Camp?

 

The essence of FirstSwing Camps is to learn the game, enjoy it, and feel the passion of mastering its components and fluency!  Our camp staff is composed of certified teachers and coaches, and current college players.  We provide expert instruction and hands-on experience.  Each day and session is filled with learning opportunities, competitions, and actual games.  Our underlying mission of "it's more than a game" is highlighted with decision-making, problem-solving, reading, and thinking activities.  Every camper will have the opportunity to test their skills and improve their game...and GET GOOD!!!

 

We offer six main camps and four additional programs:

 

Please note:  If you sign-up for all the camps, supervision is provided during the break between morning and afternoon sessions.

All players receive hitting instruction and camper chooses one defensive position:

  • Infield Play

Focus on mechanics, mental approach, and individual work.

Includes games and evaluations.

 

Camper-to-Coach ratio of 5-1

Camper ages: 7-14

Additional Programs

 

Parent-Coach Clinics: FirstSwing offers professional training clinics for youth coaches at all levels.  These 3-4 hour “hands-on” interactive learning sessions provide a basic overview of the game and how to teach it.  The curriculum includes fundamental educational and teaching principles, as well as the mechanics of throwing, pitching, hitting, and fielding.  These are excellent for the parent(s) that wish to teach their young ball player(s) the proper way to play the game and to maximize FUN!!  FirstSwing has conducted Coaches Training Clinics for: Redmond West LL, Pacific LL, Marysville LL, Bellevue West LL, Federal Way leagues, Kirkland American and National LL, Evergreen LL, Alderwood  LL, South Mukilteo LL, and others.  FirstSwing will “custom build” a clinic to fulfill YOUR needs!

 

DARE YA!!:  A parent-child baseball experience that teaches the game and is FUN!  DARE YA! is the ultimate family bonding activity in baseball.  Youngsters compete against their parent(s) as well as other family teams in challenging baseball skill tests.  The skills are taught, practiced, and then each participant “tests” his/her learning in competitive exercises/events.  ANY age or ability level youngsters are eligible to attend this very FUN experience.  Included are hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing, base running, trivia, and “surprise” competitions.  Winners receive special medals and EVERYONE leaves with gifts and GREAT MEMORIES!! 

 

THE KLOUTERS:  The Klouter Baseball Program(9-12U) is a unique baseball team experience with the primary mission of empowering youngsters to become solid productive citizens and well-rounded in their development.  This “citizens in training” team is chosen by the FirstSwing Foundation on the basis of family and player attitude and demeanor.  Some of the goals are: to develop teamwork, cooperation, decision-making skills, leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, “life skills”, and to empower all Klouters with the ability to live and direct their lives in a positive and successful fashion.  Baseball is the arena BUT, “winning in life” is the challenge!  www.klouterbaseball.org.
